A new style of in-hand showing is to be trialed at this show in 2010. Please click here for further details from the Interest Section of this site.
Please note that due to the numbers of overall entries in the Purebred Ridden Classes,
a new class has been introduced, for Intermediate Ridden Purebreds,
where none of the entries have previously qualified for HOYS at any time.
This now provides more possibilities for horses to compete against horses of a similar standard
as they gain experience, rather than for them to go straight from Novice to Open/HOYS.

Qualifications after this date will go forward to the 2010 show.
This is big NEWS to all those who breed and show Anglo and Part Bred Arabs. Yes, the return of an In Hand Championship Show especially for your horses. The loss of the old Championship hit show entries hard and often the only time you saw more than a couple of horses in the ring together was during the Championship. The new committee of the Wessex Arabian Horse Group has many links with Anglos and Part Breds and decided that Wessex would see what it could do to improve the situation.
The following is what we have decided:
The Wessex Arabian Horse Group is delighted to announce
that it will be holding an In Hand Championship show for Anglo and Part Bred Arabs.
The Committee made this decision in the hope that it will go some way to bringing these special horses
back to AHS affiliated shows.
Although on similar lines to the old UK AA/PB In Hand Championships,
the new Championship Show will be run by a group that has no connection with that organization
although they are aware of our proposals and have given us their approval.
Qualification will be for Anglo Arabs, Large and Small Part Breds registered with the AHS and also horses/ponies carrying at least 12.5% Arab blood that are not registered with the AHS but are registered with another breed society.
In addition to classes for yearlings, two year olds, three year olds, foals, mares, geldings and stallions, the Championship Show will include special classes for Amateurs and Veterans. Depending on the level of interest classes for Palominos and Coloured horse will be considered. There will also be ridden classes for the senior horses that qualified in hand. Entry to these special classes will be restricted to horses/ponies entered in the In Hand Championship classes.
Further details and qualifying cards at £10.00 each (cheques payable to the Wessex AHG)
obtainable from Mrs L Lidbury, Upper Cully Hall Farm, Ryedown Lane, Bitton, BRISTOL. BS30 6JG.
Tel: 0117 9324042 Email: lidbury@supanet.com
Please state the name and accurate height of horse/pony and excepting foals
enclose a copy of both sides of the registration document (not the passport).
SAE please and contact phone number.
There is an Application Form in the Downloads Section of this web site
which should assist with ensuring that all required information is supplied.
The Wessex Committee has contacted the shows that used to be qualifiers for the old Championships but if any other shows are interested in becoming qualifiers they should get in touch with Mrs Lidbury (as above) or Felicity Harper, Hollywood Villa, Compton Greenfield, BRISTOL BS35 5RU. Tel: 01454 632423. Email: felicityharper@btinternet.com
The Wessex Arabian Horse group hopes that exhibitors of Anglo and Part Bred Arabs will support this venture. Remember we are doing this for those oft overlooked members of our breed society. Give them the chance to show just how good they are, they don’t have to prove it, they have already done that.
Please join Wessex in making this venture a success.
This show is affiliated to the Arab Horse Society and will accept qualifiers from designated classes at the following shows:
Judges -
In-hand: Mrs C Nelson & Miss V Millward
Ridden: Mrs J MacDonald
Schedules available from the Show Secretary

The Wessex Group used the facilities at Hoplands many years ago but moved to other venues
which could better accommodate larger numbers.
Hoplands has recently been enlarged and updated to create one of the best equestrian establishments
in Hampshire.
It is also located more centrally within the Wessex Region than the Crofton Manor venue near Fareham
which was used last year.
Hence, it is hoped that this will be a more suitable location for most of our group's members.
Facilities now include:
In Hand Classes (morning)

Judge: Mrs P Smedley
Ridden Classes (afternoon)

On entering the village of King's Somborne on the A3057 between Stockbridge and Romsey,
turn into Church Road opposite the Crown Pub.
Continue up the hill for approximately 1/3 mile.
As you reach the brow of the hill turn left into an unmarked road.
(If you pass a sign displaying "single track road" you have gone too far
and will need to turn around / back-up before the road gets too narrow!)
Follow this road, pass the "Private Road, no turning past this point" sign,
until the road becomes a gravel track.
Follow the gravel track to the gates of Hoplands Equestrian Centre.
The gates are electric, so push the button on the right hand side and follow directions.
